Some buildings in Lagos were razed this morning by fire after an explosion went off in a building in Jankara area of the city,the commercial capital of Nigeria.
The explosion was said to have occurred in a building loaded with knockouts,which are used by Nigerians during Christmas and New year celebrations.All attempts to ban knockouts have proven ineffective.
Meanwhile, the National Emergency Management Authority,NEMA which confirmed the explosion in a brief statement also said it was having hectic time reaching the scene for swift action.
“NEMA has mobilized response agencies and volunteers to an explosion in a building suspected to be loaded with ‘knockouts’ in Jankara area of Lagos”, Yushau Shuaib ,the agency’s spokesman said a statement .
He added that “Search and Rescue officers of NEMA are having a hectic time to reach the place due to traffic and crowds “.
Apart from some buildings consumed by the fire trailing the explosion,some people were also wounded just as cars were destroyed.
