Former President Olusegun Obasanjo received some Peoples Democratic Party ,PDP governors who visited him in Abeokuta on Thursday. One report claimed that the PDP governors had gone to intercede on behalf of President Goodluck Jonathan who evidently has a frosty relation with Obasanjo.
But the former president’s remarks to reporters after the meeting did not indicate he would soften his criticism of the Goodluk Jonathan regime as yet .Obasanjo described Nigeria’s current situation as bad ,but he added hopefully, that things were “not irretrievably bad if there is the will and courage to do the right thing at the right time.”
Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido,Cross River Governor Liyel Imoke and Bauchi state governor, Isa Yuguda were part of the delegation. Also Governor Babangida Aliyu of Niger State and Akwa Ibom State Governor Godswill Akpabio who chairs the PDP Governors Forum is believed to have led the delegation .Reports said there were seven PDP governors in the delegation that visited OBJ.
Shedding some light into what transpired between him and the visiting governors he said they discussed “issues affecting the country- the security, the economy among others as (they are) Nigerians have no other country except Nigeria.”
Obasanjo has been receiving top politicians of late and he has equally used every opportunity to criticise the Goodluck Jonathan administration.
Many sources have told Newsdiaryonline that the former president is opposed to Jonathan’s bid to run for office in 2015.
Whether the visit by PDP governors will eventually make Obasanjo soften his critical stance against Jonathan remains to be seen.
