As Christians all over the world celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, the Northern States Governors Forum (NSGF) has urged Christian faithful in the country to use the period to pray for peace and unity of Nigeria.
In a Christmas message made available to journalists in Minna on Monday, Chairman of the forum and Governor of Niger State, Dr Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu called on Christians to seize the opportunity to pray fervently for an end to the unfortunate security challenges confronting the nation.
“There is no better time to preach and internalise Jesus Christ’s mission on earth than at this period of increasing intolerance in the country,” the forum said in a statement signed by Governor Aliyu’s Chief Press Secretary, Danladi Ndayebo. Governor Aliyu said the country has witnessed too many losses of lives of innocent people and property, a situation that does not augur well for the peace and progress of the country.
He therefore admonished all those aggrieved to toe the path of dialogue which has been provided by the federal government.
While congratulating Christians on this year’s celebration, the forum admonished them to go about their religious obligation without fear of molestation because government has put in place all the necessary machinery to ensure safety of lives and property of the citizenry.
