The Bayero University Alumni Association (BUKAA) has established its first chapter with the inauguration of the newly elected leadership of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) chapter of the Association at the weekend.
Mohammed Alhassan Gumel was unanimously elected as the Chairman, with Hajiya Amina BB Farouk as Vice Chairman. Hamza Ibrahim Baba was returned as the Secretary to be assisted by Bala Mohammed. Maryam Shettima was elected Treasurer while Aminu L. Kankara and Murtala Ibrahim emerged as Financial Secretary and Auditor, respectively.
Positions of Public Relations Officer (PRO), Legal Adviser and Social/Welfare Director went to Abdulaziz Abdulaziz, Barr. Sunusi Musa and George Onmonya Daniel, respectively.
The formation of the state chapters followed inauguration of the national organ of the Association in December last year, at a convention hosted by the university.
The 2nd National Vice Chairman of the Alumni Association, Dr. Nazifi Darma said the inauguration of the FCT chapter of the Association signposted progress being made by the parent association in bringing together all the alumni under its banner.
He charged the new chapter leadership to key into the programmes of the national body of the party, including the national convention and fund raising dinner billed for December in Abuja.
The chairman of the electoral committee who is also the national PRO of the Association, Mallam Abubakar Bello Abdullahi urged the elected leaders to be diligent, while reminding them of the task ahead of them.
The chapter chairman, Mohammed Alhassan Gumel promised to embark on aggressive membership drive and maintain close ties by organising social events.
Gumel also pledged to give face to the Association by securing an office accommodation. Another priority programme, he said, is giving back to the university through various developmental projects and initiatives.
