The Kaduna State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) would spend N5.9 billion in 2019 on the construction of classrooms, training of teachers, procurement and monitoring, as contained in the N155 billion 2019 budget proposal currently before the state’s House of Assembly.
A breakdown of the budget as issued by the state’s Planning and Budget Commission in Kaduna on Tuesday shows that construction and rehabilitation of classrooms and other facilities got the largest share of N4.5 billion, representing 76 per cent out of the N5.9 billion allocated to board for capital projects.
It also shows that procurement is next with N923 million, followed by training with N355 million, while supervision and monitoring has the least allocation of N121 million.
On construction, the document indicates that N1.4 billion will be spent on construction of 108 four-blocks of classrooms, N1.1 billion on rehabilitation of 334 blocks of classrooms and N386 million on construction of 48 2-blocks of classrooms.
Others are construction of 34 3-blocks of classrooms at N370 million, construction of 98 blocks of 2 cubicles VIP Toilets at N125 million, construction of 32 fences and gates at N191 million.
Construction of 36 blocks of laboratories got N367 million; construction of 21 blocs of two classrooms with rest rooms got N233 million, while construction of one block of two classrooms for special education got N32 million.
Also, N9.0 million would be spent on construction of two block of two cubicle toilets for special education schools, N20 million on construction of a block of two classrooms and two cubicles VIP Toilet.
Construction of Early Child Care Development Education (ECCDE) games village in 21 ECCDE schools got N9.9 million allocation, while construction of drainage systems, boreholes and expansion of school facilities got N5.3 million, N3.6 million and N53 million, the breakdown showed.
On procurement, N588 million would be spent on school furniture for teachers and pupils, N283 million on laboratory fittings for junior secondary schools and N23 million on instructional materials.
According to the document, N14.5 million will be spent on procurement of computers, printers and other electronic appliances for special education schools and Tsangaya schools.
Similarly, N116 million would be spent on procurement of wheel chairs, mobility cane, crutches, swing football, and sewing and knitting machines for special education schools.
Procurement of 63 mattress would gulp N1.4 million, while procurement of Tsangaya materials for two schools would cost N10.6 million. (NAN)
