Senator Uche Chukwumerije is dead. Reports said he died Sunday evening at a hospital in Abuja.The exact nature of the illness that led to his death had not been disclosed at the time of filing this story initially.Latest reports however said he died after a protracted battle with lung cancer.
Senator Chukwumerije who was, until his death, senator representing Abia North Senatorial district died in Abuja on Sunday at the age of 76.
However,Senate President Senator David has in a statement expressed shock and Sadness over the death of Senator Uche Chukwumerije .Mark stated that Nigeria has lost an erudite and extra ordinary nationalist .
The Senate President lamented that Chukwumerije was one of the brightest and fertile minds in the Senate.
” He radiated intelligence, exemplary conduct in both public and private life. He was a team player who brought meaning to hard work . He was focused and determined to make positive difference”, Senator Mark stated.
In the Senate, Senator Mark noted that Chukwumerije was a shinning light and a pathfinder .
” We shall miss him. No doubt he left a vacuum that would too hard to fill .
He was a consummate and passionate Nigerian who believed in the sanctity of the peace and unity of the nation”, the senate President stressed.
PDP Mourns Senator Chukwumerije
The National Chairman, on behalf of the National Executive Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the PDP family nation wide smourns the death of Senator Uche Chukwumerije who passed on this evening,PDP Spokesman Olisa Metuh said Sunday.
“We are indeed deeply saddened by the loss of this great Nigerian, a highly respected statesman who has made immense contributions to the development of our dear nation.
According to PDP ,“Senator Chukuwumerije lived a patriotic Nigerian and a brilliant lawmaker who gave his all and discharged his responsibilities with unequaled forthrightness, loyalty and commitment to the service of our dear fatherland.
“He was a democratic icon and an outstanding party-man who remained committed to the ideology of the PDP and the visions of the founding fathers.
“We will greatly miss him. Our hearts and thoughts go out to his family as we pray God to give them the fortitude to bear this great loss.
Kalu condoles with Chukwumerije’s family
Former Governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Kalu has described the death of Senator Uche Chukwumerije, as a big loss to Abia State and the nation at large.
According to Kalu, the late legislator contributed to social and political development of Nigeria having served in different capacities and positions in the public sector.
In a condolence message signed by his Special Adviser, ‘Kunle Oyewumi, Kalu said, “I was shocked to hear the news of the demise of Senator Chulwumerije. It is unfortunate that he passed away at this time when his wealth of wisdom and experience is needed in Abia State . Our hearts and thoughts are with the Chukwumerije family at this mournful period. It is my prayer that God will grant the deceased eternal rest”.
Kalu urged the family of the late legislator to take solace in the fact that the departed soul lived a fulfilled life.
The former governor, while commiserating with the government and people of Abia State, prayed to God to grant the deceased’s family the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss.
