At least three bomb explosions rocked the gubernatorial campaign rally of the All Progressives Congress ,APC at Okrika in Rivers State.
The explosions were followed by sporadic shooting by unknown gun men who invaded the venue of the rally.Eye witnesses said the shooting proceeded for at least 5 minutes and all those at the venue dived for cover.
It was learned that the Police had warned about danger of holding rally at Okirika because safety could not be guaranteed.
Newsdiaryonline also gathered that a prominent ex militant had warned APC not to come Okirika and he alerted that had purchased Kobako (horse whip) for them.
The police were yet to respond to the violence at the time of filing this report .
But an eye witness told Newsdiaryonline that Peterside was seen rolling on the ground to escape stray bullets.Party member s came to his rescue and held him up and ferried him to safety.
Newsdiaryonline learned that River APC guber candidate ,Dakuku Peterside who attended Okirika Grammar School in 1986/87 session had earlier addressed Okirika Council Of Chiefs.He met with Amanayabo of Ogoloma in his palace in Okirika.
The rally which was scheduled to hold earlier had been postponed because of the bombing of the APC party secretariat in Okirika.
