Bago receives Niger State contingent for National Milo Basketball competition

Niger Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago has received the male and female State contingents that participated at the Northern Nigeria National Milo Basketball competition in Lagos.

The Governor commended the contingent, made up of Secondary school students, for making the state proud as the males came 2nd while the females clinched 3rd positions at the Milo Basketball competition.

He said the state government will continue to encourage and support sport activities.

The Governor then announced the gift of N1.5 million for the male who came 2nd, N1million for the girls who came 3rd position and a new bus for the team.

He also announced that the coaches of the players would be hired as civil servants in the State.

The Commissioner for Basic Education, Dr. Hadiza Mohammed, who led the team to the government house, said the excellent performance of the team at the Zonal competition provided the platform for them to represent Northern Nigeria at the national competition.

She said that this is the first time the females are going for competition, and they came 3rd position.

The Commissioner also noted that this is the 3rd time the team is winning trophies for Niger State.

She commended the State government for its support and appealed for more, to encourage other Students.
