Awomama crash: FRSC blames incident on traffic violation

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has blamed violation of traffic rules by driver of a Mercedes 911 tipper for Thursday’s road crash which killed six persons in Oru East Local Government area of Imo state.

The Imo Sector Commander of FRSC, Mr Joseph Aremu, confirmed this in Owerri on Saturday.

He gave the total number of casualties in the accident as 17.

Aremu said that out of the 17 passengers that were injured, six died, while eleven that sustained various degrees of injury, were taken to the hospital by FRSC officials.

He said that preliminary investigation indicted the driver of the Mercedes 911 tipper, who he said, drove against the traffic.

Aremu said that the command had started full-scale investigation into the incident, adding that he planned to visit the tipper drivers union for deliberations.

He promised that the command would begin a clampdown on traffic offenders and ensure that culprits were brought to face full wrath of the law.

The road accident, involving a heavy duty Mercedes 911 tipper and a passenger bus conveying 17 passengers, occurred on Thursday in Oru East Local Government area killing six persons. (NAN)
