One Dead,Firefighters,Red Cross Workers,Others Injured in Lagos ‘Knockouts’ Explosion

(Updated) Latest reports from Lagos indicate that at least one person may have been killed in the huge balls of  fire that came on the heels  of a powerful  explosion earlier today.An undisclosed number of people were  also injured  by  the blast in Jankara Market area.

A channelstv.com report said the South-West spokesperson for the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Ibrahim Farinloye confirmed the death of  one person from the explosion.

In a statement confirming the explosion much earlier,Yushau  Shuaib , spokesman of NEMA said”while  security agencies would investigate and determine the real cause of the explosion and fire outbreaks, casualty figures are yet to be determined but some residents who were injured while attempting to assist in putting off the fire have been taken to hospital for treatment.”

He did not give the number of the injured.Shuaib  also said much earlier that no report of  death had been made .The NEMA  spokesman  also added later in an update on facebook that firefighters, Red Cross volunteers and citizens who volunteered to help were among those who  suffered injuries.
