President of the Senate Senator David Mark has again noted the trying times Nigeria was passing through and urged the people not to despair but to resort to prayer to almighty God to over come the challenges.
Senator Mark stated: ” we are in a difficult situation but we will continue to pray and I know with prayer, honesty and commitment of all of us we can over come . We must not despair. We must be resolute to face the challenges”.
The President of the Senate was speaking at the St. Mulumba Catholic Chaplaincy during a holy Mass celebrated by the new Cardinal John Onaiyekan in Abuja this morning.
Senator Mark who led Nigerian delegation to the Vatican to witness the consistory of his Eminence John Cardinal Onaiyekan noted that the Cardinal has brought fame and honour to the nation.
He added that Cardinal Onaiyekan has remained humble, steadfast and dedicated in spite of elevation and urged him not to rest on his oars in the crusade for peace and unity of Nigeria.
Early in his homily, taken from Mathew , chapter 15 , verses 29 – 37 , Cardinal Onaiyekan implored Nigerians both rich and poor to have compassion on one another.
He preached love and togetherness as a panacea to the intractable conflicts across the country.
