The Nigerian Army has inaugurated a Command Children School at the Nigerian Army Cantonment in Gusau.
This is contained in a statement issued in Gusau on Tuesday by the acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations,1 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Lt. Sulaiman Omale.
He said that the school was inaugurated by the acting General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division Nigerian Army, Brig.-Gen. Ibikule Ajose.
Ajose described the establishment of the school as a welcome development.
Omale quoted Ajose as saying, “This is a laudable project, saying the initiative is a step forward for the community.
”“Education is very vital to the development of any society, hence it gladdens my heart that this project has come to fruition.
“Education is a key for development, therefore parents don’t have any excuse not to send their children to school.”
The GOC commended the effort of Commander 1 Brigade, Nigerian Army Gusau, Brig.- Gen. Sani Ahmed, who was instrumental to the establishment of the school.
“The GOC expressed pride in the commander’s dedication to the welfare and education of the barracks community,” Omale explained.
Earlier, in a welcome address, the brigade commander said the project was part of the Nigerian Army’s efforts to enhance the quality of life and education for the families of the Nigerian Army personnel.
“This project is for free education, the children in the school will not pay school fees, will not buy uniforms, will not buy books and will not buy anything to come to school.
“The mission of the school is to provide a high standard of education with enhanced learning outcomes for all students through improved school management and broad participation from the host community

According to Ahmed, the school has already procured school uniforms for 240 pupils in addition to customised books, writing materials, and sportswears, among others.
