Armed Men Snatch Sokoto Lawmaker’s Vehicle

Three armed men reportedly attacked a member of the Sokoto State House of Assembly, Alhaji Umaru Nakande, snatching his car in the process.

Confirming the incident to Newsdiaryonline.com in a telephone conversation, the law maker said the his 2011 model Toyota Camry car was snatched by the three men, two of whom were allegedly armed with AK-47 rifles.

“The men attacked a friend and I as we were travelling back to Silame with Yahaya Tambari at around 7.20pm, yesterday(Friday) night. I had stopped at a joint opposite the main gate of the Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto to buy bread,” he told Newsdiaryonline.com.

He further said that the men pushed Tambari out of the car and one of them drove off, heading towards the Sokoto airport road.

“They put me at the back seat with one of them pointing a gun at me. They later dropped me at a bush between Kasarawa village and the State University after seizing my phones,” Nakande said adding that he later came back to Silame junction, on Sokoto – Airport road where he joined a commercial vehicle to Silame town.

Tambari and another member of the House, representing Shagari constituency, Bashir Lambara reported the matter to the Speaker of the House, Alhaji Lawali Zayyana who in turn, reported to the state police command, the SSS and other security agencies.

Confirming the incident to Newsdiaryonline.com, spokesperson of the state Police Command, DSP Al-Mustapha Sani said that investigations had begun into the matter.
