In pursuance of lasting peace and conflict resolution across Northern Nigeria, the Arewa Youth Forum has kick started a one year programme aim at peace building and conflict resolution across four states of the federation.
Speaking at a courtesy call on the Kaduna State Governor Dr. Mukhtar Ramalan Yero, the National President and project Alhaji Gambo Ibrahim Gujungu ,Director of Arewa Youth Forum project management team for conflict mitigation and peace building project in the state of Kaduna, Bauchi Nasarawa and Taraba said “the project shall run for a period of one year and has since started in the month of October 2014 to end in September 2015”.
“This project as conceived by us is the humble contribution of Arewa Youth Forum to the Federal Government efforts aimed at addressing the security and peace building challenges faced in the Northern Nigeria and the country at large” he added.
According to AYF, the project shall seek to fully engage chief executives of all affected states. He said, three communities with crisis history in Kaduna have been selected namely Kafanchan,Kaduna central (Gabasawa) and Sabon Gari (Zaria).
The forum also enumerated its objectives which include enhancing state governments’ intervention and effective engagement with community groups on peace and conflict mitigation, strengthening the capacity of existing and community structures to promote peace and socio-economic development among others.
Responding to the AYF, Kaduna State Governor Dr. Mukhtar Ramalan Yero said that the project was timely especially with the perennial herdsmen and farmers’ crisis.
