Aremu latest 2Comrade Issa Aremu, deputy president of a faction of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC has hailed of General Muhammadu Buhari’s  directive to his security personnel  urging  them to obey traffic rules.

Aremu who belongs to Joe Ajaero -led faction of NLC said in a statement “On behalf of the National Administrative Council (NAC) of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the generality of our members, we hereby formally commend the refreshing new disposition of the President-elect, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari to lead by example and make governance accessible to all Nigerians through simple but significant directive that all his security personnel should obey traffic rules.

“We are encouraged and motivated by his quotable words that “abiding by law would be the guiding philosophy of my administration. Without leadership by example, the ordinary citizens would become copycats of the lawlessness of their leaders”.

Hes said further “NLC recalls that lives of many Nigerians have been criminally wasted by reckless convoy drivers of presidents, ministers and governors alike precisely because these leaders disregarded with impunity basic traffic rules. The refreshing disposition of change of the President elect should serve as additional impetus for the Federal Road Safety Corps to without hesitation prosecute any office holders and military, police and other security personnel attached who flout traffic laws and wreck unprovoked violence on innocent citizens.

“Seeing the spectacular picture of the President-elect  Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari in an Airport shuttle is truly a worthy symbolism for change. Many Nigerians cannot recall when last we saw governors, ministers and legislators at public terminals of public airports. With elected leaders feeling what the citizens feel at airports and on the ever worsening roads, change certainly is around the corners. Labour will definitely partner with the new president elect to demystify governance, reconnect leaders with their people, cut the costs of (mis) governance. Forward Ever the President Elect!

He also expressed  solidarity with the Nigeria Union Journalists (NUJ) as it prepares for its historic 5th triennial delegates conference.

“As the credentials committee announces the closing of nomination, we urge the union to abide strictly to its election rules and guidelines and avoid the pitfalls that led to the inconclusive 11th national delegates conference of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).

“We have confidence in the ability of the leadership of NUJ and the credentials committee to conduct a credible, free and fair election.

“Once again we wish the NUJ a successful delegates conference.
