The Acting Executive Chairman of the Economic And Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mr. Ibrahim Magu has tasked youths across the country, to embrace the virtues of good character in their quest for leadership and as an important condition to enlist in the anti-corruption war.
He gave this charge on Sunday, 4th November, 2018 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State at the Music/Talent Concert of Warrirors Of Christ International Church.
According to him, corruption affects the future of youths more than any other segment of the society but with the right attitude and good character, youths can tackle the problems of corruption. “We cannot continue to mortgage the future of our youths. Corruption is dreadful”.
However, youths can confront the evils of corrupt practices by demonstrating good character and right attitudes. Talents are good but without good character, there may be no reward for them. God will make way for every talent nurtured with the right attitude”, he said.
Magu, who was represented by the Zonal Head of Operations of the EFCC in the Port Harcourt’s Zone, Mr. Nnaghe Obono Itam, also admonished youths to shun economic and financial crimes. He said that it was only by avoiding criminality that the future would open for them. He congratuled the Church for seeking partnership with the EFCC in the areas of sensitization and public awareness.
In his own submissions, Senator Magnus Abe, one of the guests that graced the ocassion, charged youths across the country to always seek ways and means of working harder than anyone else. “Let our youths work harder than everybody else. There are virtues and values in hard work. If other people are putting three hours in a work, youths should be prepared to put six hours and they will succeed exceedingly”, he said.
In his response, the Pastor of the Church, Bishop John Richard commended the EFCC for its unwavering commitments to the anti-corruption war, saying that the Commission has made indelible marks in its assigned mandate. “We are pleased that the EFCC is focussed. Our youths must emulate the good works of the Commission and shun all acts of corruption”, he said.
