Maj.-Gen. Emmanuel Kabuk, General Officer Commanding (GOC) 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, on Tuesday, assured residents of Enugu and environs of professional conduct of its personnel to sustain peaceful civil-military relations.

Kabuk gave the assurance at the opening of the 82 Division Operations Planning Cadre 2018 Training in Enugu.

“I wish to state that 82 Division under my watch will continue to strive to ensure peace within its area of responsibility.

“82 Division officers and soldiers will continue to handle emerging security challenges professionally and with all sense of responsiveness consistent with the COAS vision,’’ he said.

The GOC said that the training was necessary due to increased participation of the Nigerian Army in existing as well as joint and multi-national operations.

“There is therefore the need for adherence to techniques and procedures in the conduct of military operations while not ruling out the Rule of Law.

“The prevailing security situation in the country coupled with some peculiar activities in the Division’s Area of Responsibility, especially the recent agitations by criminal groups, have made continuous training imperative,’’ he said.

According to him, the cadre training is aimed at teaching, exercising and refreshing the participants who are officers of the division in the art of operational planning.

“The essence is to equip officers with the skills of organising, planning and executing operations seamlessly either in conventional or asymmetrical warfare etc.

“It is important to note that Logistics Planning, which is key to successful conduct of operations has been added to this training,’’ Kabuk said.

The GOC added that the training was also key to the COAS’ vision which was to have a professionally responsive Nigeria Army in discharge of its constitutional roles.

He thanked the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, for providing the resources for the training.

Kabuk also appreciated personnel of sister security agencies for their support to the division, saying “we will continue to count on your support for great successes’’.

The training, which was meant for commanders, commanding officers and senior officers in the division, was attended by heads of sister security agencies and the Nigerian Air-Force based in Enugu State. (NAN)
