Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko has advocated the sustainable empowerment of the youths in the country as well as education as the only key that could unlock their hidden potentials.
Wamakko made the statement when the Association of Sokoto Youths Traders (ASOYOT) bestowed an Award of Remarkable Achievements on him Wednesday night at his Gawon Nama residence in Sokoto.
According to a statement by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Bashir Mani, Wamakko said: “The youths should strive to learn various trades, be self reliant, productive and becomes useful to themselves, their families, the state and the country in general.”
He recalled that when his administration disbursed soft loans worth billions of the Naira, traders, farmers and other artisans across the state became self-relient.
“Thousands of small and large scale farmers, as well as various categories of businesses sprung up, with scores of them engaged in transnational and international trades,” the statement added.
While pledging to assist members of the association to boost their activities for the benefit of the state and Nigeria at large, Wamakko admonished the leaders and members of the association to emulate the lofty virtues of patience, scholarship, patriotism and brothers’ keepers.
Lauding the association for its activities, he said: “I am indeed highly elated and in high spirits to further assist as well as partner with the association. I will soon meet with the leadership of the association to brainstorm on the type of support they need from me in order to boost their activities.”
Earlier, Chairman of the association, Alhaji Bashiru Nuhu Basha the award was as a result of achievements of Senator Wamakko when he was the Governor of the state between 2007 and 2015.
He stressed that Wamakko had remained an icon and shining example, nationwide.
