Dr Arikawe Adeolu, a medical practitioner, Federal Medical Centre, Jabi, Abuja, on Friday, recommended cotton and linen clothing during hot weather to protect against heat and rashes.

Adeolu said this in interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.

He added that such clothing materials were better options for use during hot weather because they had holes in them which allowed air into the body, thereby reducing internal heat.

The medical practitioner advised against wearing clothes made from silk, nylon and polyester because they trapped heat in them.

According to him, such materials are for use during the cold season as they trap in heat and keep the body warm.

He said “the best clothes for hot weather are those in bright colours and loose fitted as
dark colours absolve and trap heat in the body.

“Shorter clothes are also better options; men can opt for short sleeve clothing, while women wear short dresses. This can be used outside the official working environment.”

Adeolu advised the public to make effort toward adjusting to the choices as it would help to prevent heat-related health complications.

He also urged the public to avoid staying under direct sunlight, adding that during hot season, one should ensure he or she remained hydrated by drinking at least three litres of water daily. (NAN)
