The event will be chaired by Mrs. Ifueko Omoigu Okauru, former executive chairman, Federal Inland Revenue Service.

International Youth Day is celebrated on August 12 each year to recognise the efforts of the world’s youth in enhancing global society. In 1998, a resolution proclaiming August 12 as International Youth Day was adopted during the World Conference of Ministers Responsible for Youth.

The recommendation was later endorsed by the UN General Assembly in 1999. International Youth Day was first observed in 2000.  It seeks to promote ways to engage youth in becoming more actively involved in making positive contribution to their society and setting a policy framework and guidelines for national action and international support to improve the situation of young people all over the world.

Chido Onumah, coordinator of AFRICMIL said the IYD lecture which started in 2011 aims to create an opportunity for Nigerian youth to express themselves and interact with policy makers as well promote the contribution of young people to national development.
