Meningitis: Sokoto, Sultan laud WHO over response

Sokoto state government and Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar have lauded World Health Organisation (WHO) for its swift response to curtail the meningitis epidemic in Nigeria.

Sokoto state Commissioner of Health, Dr. Balarabe Kakale and Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar made the commendation at different fora when the World Health Organisation (WHO) Nigeria Representative, Dr. Alemu Wondi paid visits to the Ministry and Sultan palace on Thursday.‎

Describing WHO as grand masters of surveillance and data planners, Kakale added that Wondi’s vi‎sit displayed total commitment by the organisation to stop further spread of the epidemic.

The Commissioner also recognised Sultan as a global voice in maternal health whose contributions to the challenges of health in Nigeria has remained whole.

Also at the Palace, Sultan Sa’ad commended WHO for its prompt support to Nigeria and Wondi for being a proactive leader.

He reiterated his commitment and that of the traditional institution in ensuring efficient delivery of health services to Nigerians.

“Health is wealth and we will do every humanly possible to boost health delivery in the country. ‎We will sustain our partnership with WHO and other development partners in this direction,” the Sultan assured.

Earlier, Wondi told the Commissioner and the Sultan that his visit was a show of solidarity on the outbreak of meningitis.

“We are here to asses the situation and extend our support on the outbreak,” he said.
