As part of its commitment towards improving the quality of education in Nigeria,an independent body has donated Geo -sciences equipment and financial assistance to six Universities in the country.
Performing the ceremony today,in Abuja, Parmanent secretary,federal ministry of education, prof Macjohn Nwaobiala, “said the gesture will not only enhance quality geology science teaching in the universities but also portray the organisation as a responsible firm” he affirmed.
He stressed the need for the head of the universities to make good use of equipment as well maintain it to ensure it last long.
He however ” called on other organisations to emulate the gesture by contributing their own quota for sustainable development in the education sector” he advised.
On his part, the donor,General manager operation technical geo-science Exonmobil Nigeria,mr Micheal Udoh,stated that ” over 3 billion naira has been invested into geo sciences education in Nigerian universities and will continue to invest more in the future towards ensuring that Nigeria geosciences stands on equal competitive footing with best universities in the world” he stressed.
He said ” the set of beneficiary-universities are as follows, Akwa ibom state university, Anambara state university, federal university of petroleum resources, Effurun, federal university of technology, Akure, university of Ilorin, university of Jos, adding that these six universities will be receiving the donations of analytical. Equipment consisting of 6 Logitech thin section making machines, 24 digital camera and cheques of 5.77m(five million seven hundred and seventy seven million naira each) for each university to pay for students logistics and lectures field allowances” he analyzed.
Responding on behalf of the Vice chancellor of the six universities, prof Akaehomen Ibhadode,Vc Federal university of petroleum resources Effurun, promised ” to use the equipment effectively as well secure them for as long as their life span permits to create works of value for operations” he stated.
