Nigeria’s Adesina Elected President Of African Development Bank

Nigeria’s Akinwumi Adesina,55  has been  elected  as the 8th President of the African Development Bank on Thursday, May 28,a report on banks website  said.

The report reads:  “A Nigerian citizen, Adesina is currently serving as Nigeria’s Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development.

“He succeeds Donald Kaberuka, whose second term as President of the Bank ends in August.

“His name was announced by Albert Toikeusse Mabri, Minister of Planning and Development for Côte d’Ivoire, and current Chairman of the Board of Governors of the African Development Bank.

The election was conducted by the Board within the Annual Meetings of the African Development Bank Group, held in Abidjan, the report also said.

He is expected to   assume office on the 1st of  September 2015.

It would be recalled that Nigeria’s incoming  president Muhammadu Buhari threw his weight behind Adesina  shortly after winning the presidential election.

Buhari even sent former vice president Atiku Abubakar to South African in order to lobby President Jacob  Zuma to support the Nigerian candidate

Adesina’s victory could be seen as the first major foreign triumph victory for Nigeria’s president elect even before being sworn into office.
