Gunmen suspected to be members of the dreaded Islamic sect Boko Haram Saturday evening in Kaduna killed one police man and injured one other along with his daughter.An Eye witness said that the incident which took place at 5 Pm in Kakuri area of the metropolis left residents scampering for safety.
A man who gave his name as Sunday Abutu said he was around the vicinity when the shooting took place, narrated that the police man had gone to repair his motor cycle (Okada) at a Mechanic workshop along Samaru Road close to Excel Universal College when the gunmen arrived.
He said the men numbering about five pretended as if to strike a conversation with police man only for one of them to push him down, overpower the policeman him and collect his gun.
“He was trying to get to his feet when one of them carrying the gun started shooting him and killed him immediately”, he stated.
The other injured man was identified as the Mechanic on whose Shop the incident took place along with his daughter who was said to have brought food for his father.(mechanic).
During a visit by our reporter to Gwamna Awwal General Hospital where the mechanic is receiving treatment a contingent of the Kaduna state elite force “Operation Yaki” numbering about 9 where seen patrolling the area, but refuse to comment on the issue.
The leader of the group who refused to give his name directed that the Hospital Public Relations
Officer was the only one that could comment on the issue.When contacted the Kaduna state police PRO Aminu lawan confirmed the incident, saying that “am confirming to you that the incident happened, we have commenced investigation in the incident and we believe that the facts that we have started gathering would give us the clue we needed”.
On the identity of the police man, Aminu said “yes he is a police man attached to our Mobile Unit along road Sabo,” but refused to give the name.
