The Nigerian Army has imposed a 24 hour curfew on Maiduguri , Borno state capital, a statement by Colonel Tukur Gusau,deputy director army public relations,7 Division Maiduguri said.
According to Gusau,”In view of the recent development within Maiduguri metropolis a 24hr curfew is here by imposed in the city. This is done to protect lives and property of innocent and law abiding people of Maiduguri.
“The Nigerian Army (wishes) to once again thank you for your continuous support and cooperation. The situation is firmly under control” the statement said.
Though the statement did not give any details, reports Wednesday evening said a band of Boko Haram terrorists had unleashed two female suicide bombers as a decoy to facilitate an attack near Maiduguri.
The report however said Nigerian troops had foiled the attack.The report also said troops were doing mopping up operation.
It could be recalled that Boko Haram elements had in the recent past made daring attempts to seize control Maiduguri, and Damaturu,capital of neighbouring Yobe.The attacks were repelled.
This latest curfew in Maiduguri came after troops had dislodged the terrorists from several camps in the notorious Sambisa forests.
Over 500 people,especially women ,girls and children were rescued from Sambisa following intense air and land assaults, the military said.
