Lighthouse University, located in Evbuobanosa in Edo, has inaugurated its Governing Council with a retired High Court Judge, Justice Roland Amaize, as its first Pro-Chancellor.
The inauguration ceremony took place on Wednesday at the institution’s permanent site along the Benin-Agbor Road.
The governing council members include Engr. Osadolor Oweiadolor, Prof. Anthony Imianvan, Elder F.O. Idehen, Rev. Prof. David Osifo, and Deacon Irene Imilar.
Representatives from the Edo State Ministry of Education and the National Universities Commission, were also listed as members of the council.]
The Founder and Chancellor of the University, Rev. Dr Felix Omobude, encouraged the council to strive for excellence in guiding the institution.
It would be recalled that Lighthouse University operated as a Federal Government-approved private polytechnic, before it was upgraded to a degree-awarding institution.
Omobude, also the founder of New Covenant Gospel Church, Benin, expressed gratitude to God for realising his dream of transforming the polytechnic into a university, describing it as an uncommon milestone.
Omobude credited the institution’s success to divine guidance, resources, and community support, especially from his ancestral community, Evbuobanosa.
The chancellor emphasised the university’s commitment to producing globally competitive graduates skilled in entrepreneurship and innovation, while fulfilling its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to the host community.
He noted that the institution founded in 1989, was dedicated to providing affordable, high-quality education.
“I expect Lighthouse University to be a cradle of world-changers, where great scholars are nurtured and empowered to impact society positively,” he said.
Justice Amaize, the newly appointed Pro-Chancellor, expressed gratitude to Omobude for entrusting him with the role.
He assured that his experience from serving on similar boards for 19 years would contribute to the university’s success.
“I pray for divine wisdom to guide me in this great responsibility,” Amaize said.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Anthony Imianvan, noted that the university’s upgrade had put it in a vantage position to compete with top institutions locally and globally.
He announced that admissions into three NUC-accredited faculties with 15 programmes across eight departments had begun in the institution.
“These faculties include Mass Communication, Political Science, and Management Sciences.
” Departments span from Sociology to Computer Sciences, reflecting the university’s diverse academic offerings, ” he added.
Evbuobanosa community secretary, Mr Anthony Okoro, expressed gratitude to Omobude for prioritising the institution’s CSR to the community.
He assured that the community would collaborate with the university to maintain safety and security on campus.(NAN)
