Flood: Zulum’s aides donate N3.45m to victims

 The Forum of Senior Technical Assistants (STAs) to Gov. Babagana Zulum of Borno, has donated N3.45 million to support victims of the recent flood  in Maiduguri and environs.

Speaking during a sympathy visit to Zulum, the forum’s Chairman (STAs), Dr Tahiru Shettima, the reiterated the forum’s readiness to support government’s efforts toward assisting flood victims.

“Your Excellency, the world has seen your rescue efforts and the food distribution you embarked on. The world has also seen how you mobilised the general public towards alleviating the sufferings of the disaster victims.

“I think you stand out, and indeed we’re very proud of you because we compare you to Mother Theresa in your humanitarian stride”, Shettima said .

Responding, Zulum expressed gratitude for the generous contribution and assured the STAs that the funds would be judiciously used.

He also commended the forum for their solidarity with the state government and people during this challenging time.

“On behalf of the government and people of Borno,  I want to most respectfully convey my deepest appreciation to all of you and for the generous donation you have made to the basket fund.

“Be rest assured that we will utilise the funds judiciously,” the governor said.

NAN reports that in response to the flood disaster in Maiduguri, several prominent individuals have stepped forward with substantial donations to aid victims and support recovery efforts.

The Borno government announced receiving over N12 billion in cash and material donations to aid victims of the Alau Dam flood disaster in Maiduguri.

Abdurrahman Bundi, Senior Special Adviser on New Media to Zulum, disclosed this during an update on the Maiduguri Relief Fund as at Sept. 20.

Bundi revealed that Aliko Dangote leads the list of individuals with a donation of N2 billion.

The state also revealed that various other donors contributed including corporate entities, state governments, legislators, and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs).(NAN)
