The FCT Executive Committee (Exco) has expressed grave concern over numerous uncompleted and abandoned buildings dotting the Federal Capital City, Abuja.
The Exco expressed this concern on Monday during its meeting at the Banquet Hall, FCT Minister’s Residence, Gwarinpa I District (Life-Camp), Abuja.
The FCT Minister, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed who presided over the meeting reiterated that such structures pose very serious security threat to the well being of the City.
“The Exco noted the huge security implications of these buildings on the lives of the residents of the Federal Capital Territory and directed the FCT Department of Development Control on how to minimize it”, the Minister emphasized.
The Exco also expressed concern over the outward appearance of some structures, which seem to be in dilapidated state and warned that the trend must be reversed immediately.
The Minister said at the meeting, “the Exco thus directed the FCT Development Control Department to as a matter of urgency enumerate all uncompleted buildings as well as undeveloped plots in serviced areas”.
The Exco advised property owners in the Territory especially those completed but unoccupied to make effort to illuminate them and provide security lighting and personal guards.
According to him, “owners of completed but unoccupied buildings should be made to mandatorily provide security lighting at the view, rear and all sides of such properties all nights as well as station security personnel”.
He reiterated that the Exco directed that empty homes should be kept clean of weeds, stagnant water, litter and properly landscaped with well-manicured plants.
On transportation, the Exco noted the on-going installation of traffic light signals in 74 junctions across the Federal Capital City and some Satellite Towns.
Senator Mohammed revealed that this is in fulfillment of the FCT Administration’s plan to signalize all intersections in the Federal Capital City as well as some selected Satellite Towns.
The Minister disclosed that the project is in collaboration with the Chinese Government through the National Planning Commission and that the FCT Administration has paid all its counterpart funds.
The FCT Minister of State, Oloye Olajumoke Akinjide, FCT Permanent Secretary, Engr. John Obinna Chukwu, FCDA Executive Secretary, Engr. Adamu Ismaila, Chief of Staff to the FCT Minister, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar Sadiq, mandate secretaries and some directors attended the EXCO meeting.
