Wife of Rivers State governor, Dame Judith Amaechi has launched “clean your environment” campaign in support for environmental sanitation in the state. Mrs. Amaechi disclosed this while commissioning the water projects in five communities at Obio/Akpor local government area.The projects were donated by President , Arm of Hope Worldwide, Apostle Eugene Ogu to mark his 50th birthday.
Mrs. Amaechi who was one of the participants at the sanitation stakeholders forum organized by the Rivers State Environmental sanitation authority said, it was time for residents to reciprocate government’s huge investment in sanitation exercise. The Governor’s wife added that if Rivers State must be returned to its garden city status, all hands must be on deck to complement government’s efforts especially cleaning their surrounding and managing the waste appropriately.
“We are about to experience a new dawn in discharge of sanitation, it is our collective responsibility, let’s help the government to serve us better especially as we are about to witness a change in the mode of waste collection and disposals”,she said .
Dame Amaechi further hinted that she would lead women to all parts of the state to create more awareness on the new trend of sanitation management.
“Very soon, we will hit the road to campaign on clean your environment because our women and children are waste managers at home and are worst hit in the event of outbreak of diseases occasioned by the poor management of refuse at home”.
Governor Amaechi’s wife while commissioning the water project charged the communities to make judicious use of them and not allow it be destroyed.She commended Apostle Eugene Ogu for his gesture and called on other well meaning individuals to take a cue from him.
In a related development, Mrs Judith Amaechi has challenged Lady pharmacists in the country to fight influx of quacks in the profession to curtail high mortality rate resulting from use of fake drugs and maladministration.
Mrs Amaechi stated this, Monday, when she played host to the Association of Lady Pharmacists who paid her courtesy visit at the ESI headquarters in Port Harcourt. She stated that the activities of quacks in the industry have continued to endanger the lives of Nigerian especially women and children who occasionally rely on self medication and wrong medical prescriptions.
“Today’s visit is timely because it is very pertinent for us to discuss challenges, facing health care delivery service, especially the activities of quack threatening the lives of Nigerians and we must act fast now”.
