Former Military President ,General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida,IBB has disowned a twitter handle @gen_ibb which he said has been “churning out very disgusting statements in my name.”
Dismissing the handle as fake,IBB said in a statement “This is to inform members of the Nigerian public and the international community that I do not have a twitter handle by whatever name. There is an ongoing twitter handle @gen_ibb that purports to be representing my views and churning out very disgusting statements in my name.
The General said “Those who have grown over the years to know me clearly understand my style and position on national and international issues.
“I cannot descend to the level of using gutter language on anyone or on any issue about persons, individuals and institutions or establishment. All those commentaries on the so called twitter are purely the opinion of the impostor who is trying to tarnish my hard earned reputation and my freedom of speech.
“At this age and time, I cannot hide under any guise to purport to be speaking when I should speak on certain issues affecting my country.
“I cannot pretend to speak when I should actually speak.
IBB asserted that “I have my own style which is peculiar to me and would not want any impostor to undermine my right by creating a twitter handle in my name in such a dubious manner.
“This is therefore to inform the general public that they should disregard any tweet from that address by way of opinion, comment, viewpoint, commentary, suggestion or otherwise. It is understandable that the world has gone gaga with the outburst of social media but it should not be at the infringement of other people’s right.
“When I need to speak, I know full well what I have to speak on and at what point I should do so, and the medium of expressing same. This present impostor hurts my sensibilities and should therefore be disregarded”,IBB said.
