For two days running, Nigeria’s Senate failed to reach an agreement on the request by President Goodluck Jonathan for an extension of the State of Emergency in three north east states of Borno,Yobe and Adamawa.
The states have been under intense Boko Haram insurgency, leading to declaration of emergency rule which has been extended twice now.
After failing to reach an agreement on Tuesday, the senate deferred its decision till Wednesday. But after another session on Wednesday the opposition to the demand for extension of state of emergency remained unbending in the senate.
So at the end of Wednesday’s meeting, the Senate again failed to approve the extension of emergency rule.
Senate President David Mark announced that the Service Chiefs have been invited to brief the senate on Thursday as the battle for the extension of the state of emergency in the states rages.
