Rivers:2012 World Environment Day Celebration Postponed over Dana Air Disaster

Following the Dana Air disaster last Sunday, the 2012 World Environment Day Celebration has been suspended in Rivers State.The Ministry of Environment Permanent Secretary, Dr. George Nwaeke while addressing newsmen shortly before the scheduled commencement of the  event said that after several consultations from other states it was resolved that due to the three-day mourning period  declared by the Federal Government on the heels of the sad event , it would no longer be proper to continue.

Dr. Nwaeke announced that the event would now take place on Friday 8th June 2012 at the Alfred Diete Spiffs Civic Centre by 10 am in Port Harcourt.

The Environment Day Celebration which haa its theme ‘’Green Economy Does It Include

You? Among the expected dignatories are Chairman of the occasion, Professor Nimi Briggs and guest lecturer of the day, Professor Dagogo Fubara amongst others.The Special Guest wll be  Governor of Rivers State, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi

Other organizations invited to grace the event are, Nigeria Environmental Society, United Nations Programme [UNEP], Waste Management Association of Nigeria, Environmental Management Association.
