The political tempo for 2015 presidential elections in the All Progressives Congress (APC) rose at the weekend with a strategy meeting in Kaduna that brought together General Buhari and three APC governors in the North West zone summoned to pave way for a northern presidential candidate to emerge.
An insider at the meeting disclosed that General Buhari was expected when the meeting opened but Governors Aliyu Magatakarda Wammako, Rabiu Kwankwaso and Abdulaziz Yari were in attendance along with some top party officials from the north-west zone.
Discussions centred on marshalling resources and fine-tuning modalities for the successful emergence of the northern candidate ahead of the party’s presidential primaries scheduled for October this year.
The meeting would also strategize towards APC dislodging the PDP in the zone, thereby capturing the most populous geo-political zone to back up the party and its northern presidential candidate for the 2015 elections in conjunction with the other zones of the party.
A source disclosed that the meeting was coordinated by the APC Vice-Chairman (North-West), Barrister Inuwa Abdulkadir, former Youth Minister, Attorney-General of Sokoto State and founding chieftain of the ACF who was observed at the venue liaising with the party leaders as they arrived for the meeting.
