President of the Senate, Senator David Mark has congratulated President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Mallam Mohammed Garba on his re-election at last Saturday’s bi-annual national conference of the union.
Senator Mark in a congratulatory message to Mallam Garba and his executive members urged them to uphold the sanctity of fairness, objectivity and truth in the discharge of his duties.
He stated: “I earnestly congratulate you and your executive members on your election. Your victory I dire say was a reflection of the wishes of the majority of your colleagues.
“I enjoin other contestants in the election to exhibit the spirit of sportsmanship and come together for the prosperity of your noble profession”.
Senator Mark however reminded Garba of the sacred duties of Journalists as the mirror and watch dog of the society who must as a matter of necessity hold government accountable at all times.
“This time tested duty is a sacred assignment, you must be guided by it and perform your constitutional roles without fear or favour. You must never compromise”, he advised.
