The Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) in Ogun on Friday said 20 persons died in various road accidents in the state between Dec. 15 and Jan. 4.
Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi, the corps spokesperson, stated this in a statement issued in Abeokuta.
Akinbiyi explained that 42 crashes were recorded during the period under review, saying that 38 vehicles and four motorcycles were involved in the accidents.
He added that out of the 20 deaths recorded, 14 were male while six were female, adding that 15 persons died from motor vehicles while five died from motorcycles.
Akinbiyi explained that 72 people were injured in the accidents comprising 43 males and 29 females.
He urged motorists to always consider other road users while on the road, saying that recklessness on the highways should be discouraged.
Akinbiyi said that most of the road crashes were as a result of tyre bursts, speeding, non-use of seat belt, dangerous driving and wrongful overtaken. (NAN)
