Prof. Sulyman Abdulkareem, the Vice Chancellor, University of Ilorin, on Monday urged Nigerians, particularly Christians, to emulate the exemplary dispositions of Jesus Christ in their daily life.

Abdulkareem gave the advice in a Christmas message to members of the university community.

Abdulkareem, who is also the Chairman of the Committee of ViceChancellors of Nigerian Universities (CVN) urged Nigerians to ensure that love, peace and justice prevailed at all times.

He described Christmas as a moment of greatness and a time for deep reflection considering the birth, life and position of Jesus Christ, which the ceremony symbolises.

He said that it was important for Nigerians, not minding their religious, social, political and economic inclination, to embrace honesty, integrity, devotion, sacrifice and civility epitomised by Jesus Christ.

According to him, these attributes made Jesus Christ a personality for veneration among billions of people across world over the last two thousand years.

He said the life of Jesus Christ had shown that it was not the number of years spent on a mission that mattered but the quality of time, energy and devotion applied to it.

He said that the earthly greatness of Jesus was demonstrated beyond debate within a period slightly above three decades.

Abdulkareem said if Nigerians exhibited the attitude of Jesus in our daily lives most of the problems currently facing the country would become a thing of the past.

He called on Nigerians to eschew bitterness and see one another as brothers and sisters.

“Nigerians should not to be disillusioned with the contemporary situations but be courageous, work harder and prayerful so that the nation would regain its lost glory,” he said.

He said that his administration remained committed to the promotion of the well-being of staff and students of the university.

He also assured stakeholders, particularly parents and guardians that the institution would remain a shining example among its peers within and outside the country. (NAN)
