Women Journalists in the country have been tasked to get involved in the fight against child trafficking in the country.
Kogi State Governor, Capt. Idris Wada, stated this when he received the National President of Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) and other ‘B’ Zone officers of NAWOJ, who are in the State for a two day Zonal Conference.
The Governor who was represented by his Deputy, Yomi Awoniyi, called on Women Journalists to join in adding their voice to the scourge of child trafficking that is becoming an issue of concern to the country.
While acknowledging the role of women in Nation Building, the State Governor said the present administration in the State has made the issues of health of women and children a priority.
The Governor added that the importance it attaches to the involvement of nation building influenced the meeting of 35% affirmation clamoured for by women in the State.
While urging them to remain a force in the vanguard for the protection of women rights, said the investiture of Hajia Halimat Wada, the Kogi State First Lady by NAWOJ, is a welcome development.
The Governor assured women at the grassroots that following the State Government directives are to be given two executive protections at the Council Level.
Earlier in her speech, Comrade (Mrs.) Asabe Baba-Nahaya, said NAWOJ is a 21 year old association established to ensure that members are developed to fight violence against women and children.
The National President commended the State Government for its support in making sure that the voice of women is heard through appointment, solicited for more position in government for women in the State.
In their separate speeches, Comrade Ali Atabor, State Chairman of Kogi State NUJ and Agnes Ekundayo Kogi State President of NAWOJ, commended the attention the State Government attaches to the information sector, particularly to the working journalists.
