senate_president__david_mark 600President of the Senate, Senator David Mark has renewed his appeal to the Economic Community of West African States(ECOWAS) to come together and chart a way out of the growing insurgents ravaging the region.

Senator Mark noted that the unabating cases of insurgencies have reached an alarming stage beyond the capability of a single state to confront.

Addressing parliamentarians from the ECOWAS nations after their three weeks plenary session in Abuja on Monday night, Senator Mark added that ” the destiny of the West African nations is tied together. We must therefore come together to find solutions to the issues of insurgency, poverty and under development.

” We have a lot to gain by coming together as a bloc. We need to have a common approach to our challenges so that we can stop the intractable crisis facing us”.

Senator Mark stated that ECOWAS parliament should be in the forefront of finding solutions to the region’s problems adding ” as parliamentarians we pride ourselves as the custodian of democracy world wide”.

In his remark, the Speaker of ECOWAS parliament and Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu praised the President of the Senate for his leadership roles pointing out that Senator Mark’s patriotism, nationalistic posture and leadership qualities have earned the National Assembly the needed respect and dignity.

Such qualities Ekweremadu opined are needed in the subregion in order to come out of the woods.

The ECOWAS parliamentarians are expected to reconvene in September 2013.
