The Niger state Government has set another record through its successful acquisition of a new suitable and befitting orientation camp for the Batch A of the National Youth Service Corps members in line with the directive of the Director General of NYSC.
The move by the State Governor, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu was borne out of his genuine interest in the youth and educational development of the country as well as his believe in the NYSC ideology of fostering unity among the various ethnic groups of the country.
The NYSC orientation camp which has been in existence at the Government Teacher College Paiko in Paikoro Local Government Area of Niger State in the last fifteen years was relocated because of the security challenges faced by the state.
The Director General of NYSC had earlier ordered that the NYSC orientation camp in Paiko be relocated to Ilorin the Kwara State Capital if the Niger State government cannot find another orientation camp for corps members posted to the state.
The DG’s apprehension might not be unconnected to the 2011 bomb blast at the INEC headquarter of Suleja Local government Area of the state where scores of corps members who were billed to participate in the general election were killed.
But the Governor in his determination to see to the entrenchment of peace and unity in the land decided that all conditions put in place by the NYSC DG must be complied with to show his administration’s readiness in promoting peace, love and unity among the geopolitical zones of the country.
The New orientation camp which was put in place by government at the famous Women’s Teachers College Minna has been given a serious face lift in order to provide a very conducive atmosphere for both the young corpers and their military instructors .This is aimed at ensuring that there is no distraction for those saddled with the responsibility of carrying out the day to day activities at the orientation camp.
Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu who took the decision to relocate the orientation camp at the last state executive council meeting said his administration is out to leave a befitting legacy to generations yet unborn.
According to him, “we owe it a duty to this nation to promote National unity and National integration, this is one value we have vowed to uphold and we shall continue to do that with the last drop of our blood, because we are committed to restructuring of the Nigerian Federation in the hope that the lopsidedness in the structure of the nation’s politics and economy will be a key agenda issue”.
He also said “as Chairman of the Northern Governor’s Forum I want to call on youths and student bodies and other groups to join hands together to tackle the identified threats confronting the Nation”.
