Nigerian troops intercepted 3 suspects on motorcycles as they moved towards Ilesa East Local Government Area in Osun State on Saturday, the Nigerian Army said.
A statement signed by acting Director, Army Public Relations,Colonel Sagir Musa on Sunday said the suspects were heading towards their destination in order to disrupt the elections earlier scheduled for Saturday February 16,2019.
It could be recalled that INEC eventually postponed the elections,citing logistics reasons.
Musa said: “Troops of Operation Safe Conduct deployed to provide security/conducive atmosphere for the conduct of a free, fair and credible Presidential/National Assembly Elections at Iwaraja Junction along Osun and Ogun axis on Saturday the 16th of February 2019 at about 0730hrs intercepted 3 hoodlums on motorcycle moving towards Ilesa East LGA to disrupt smooth conduct of 2019 general elections in that area.”
The hoodlums were arrested and some items were recovered from them including 1 locally made pistol, 3 rounds of cartridges, 3 mobile phones, 1 iPad, 1 Peace Corps fez cap, 1 Peace Corps ID card and the sum of N14,300.
“Those arrested will be handed over to the police upon completion of initial profiling and investigation” the statement said..
