#TrackNigeria: Chief Dan Orbih, Edo Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has stressed the need for Nigerian women to ensure that their votes count during the forthcoming general elections.
Orbih said this on Monday in Benin at the special town hall meeting organised by Mrs Jennifer Abubakar, wife of the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, for Edo women.
According to him, securing votes starts from the day electorate picked their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), adding that it is their ticket to vote for the leaders they like to govern them.
“You can only secure your votes if you are allowed to vote, and it is only with your PVC that you can vote,” he said.
The state chairman of the party also advised women to always remain patient at the polling units to be able to cast their votes as well as wait after casting their votes and secure same.
Orbih also advised them to ensure that they follow the results announced at the polling units to the collation centres.
Meanwhile, Abubakar said that a vote for her husband would ensure that all barriers preventing women from reaching their best potential, whether in adolescence or adulthood, is broken.
She noted that women and youths were crucial to the survival of societies, adding that empowering them would be a must deal, if the PDP returns to power.
Abubakar’ wife said that her husband and his vice,Pter Obi would ensure uninterrupted access to education as well as discourage unfair exploitation of women in the society, if voted into power.
She also assured the women that jobs would be created, insecurity and wanton bloodshed would be a thing of the past, if the people give PDP the mandate to govern the country again.
Similarly, Sen. Christy Anyanwu said that there was need for a paradigm shift in policies and governance in the country.
She also stressed the importance of Nigerian women to speak out, adding that things were not as they should be in the country because women had not been speaking out.
Anyanwu further advised women to vote for leaders with world class experience, compassion and human feeling.
