The Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Sen. Ita Enang has commended the senate for the screening of Mrs Abike Dabiri and Justice Uwani Abba-Aji.
Enang specifically commended the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters as well as the Committee on Diaspora for the gesture.

He told the News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) shortly after the screening on Tuesday in Abuja that the committees were satisfied with the nominees’ records and promised to forward their reports to the Senate in plenary.

Enang said Dabiri’s name was sent for appointment as Director General and Executive Chairman of the Diaspora Commission.

He further commended President Muhammadu Buhari for the nominations, saying they were well deserved.

“She was the originator of the concept and the bill that gave birth to the commission. I want to say that it is good to do good because you never know when it will count.

“She started that when I was with her in the House of Representatives. It was passed in the sixth and seventh assembly but was not given assent. However, Buhari gave assent on the bill.

“At the committee she was asked to take a bow because of her pedigree and because of the work she s doing in that direction.

“For Justice Abba-Aji, her appointment is sequel to the retirement of Justice Clara Ogunbiyi, from the North East.

“The zone has to be filled and that was what gave rise to the appointment of Justice Abba Aji and the committee was impressed with her records as they did not find any petition against her.

“They commended her because she rose from the lowest of the ranks as a clerk, registrar, magistrate, a judge of the High Court, a justice of the Court of Appeal and today she is found qualified to be a justice of the Supreme Court,” he said.

Enang expressed optimism that the appointments would be confirmed.(NAN)
