A 31-year-old driver, Adebisi Adesanya, on Thursday appeared before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos for alleged theft of four international passports and 200 dollars (N72, 000) from his employer’s safe.
Adesanya, whose address was not provided, is facing a charge of stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Kingsley Jackson, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Dec. 1, at E16, Spa Road, Oniru, Victoria Island, Lagos.
He said that the accused stole the four international passports and the 200 dollars from the complainant, Mr Kola Okeowo.
“The accused, who was the personal driver of the complainant, stole the items from a safe in the complainant’s room,’’ Jackson said.
According to the prosecutor, the offence contravenes Section 287 (7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the section prescribes seven years imprisonment for offenders.
Mrs Helen Ibeji, counsel to the accused, urged the court to grant her client bail on most liberal terms.
The Magistrate, Mrs A. A. Famobiwo, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000, with two sureties in like sum.
Famobiwo said that the sureties should be gainfully employed and show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the case until Jan. 9, 2019 for mention. (NAN)
