Yellow Fever: Sokoto community, religious leaders drums support

Various religious and community groups in Sokoto State have pledged commitments towards a successful conduct of Yellow Fever prevention campaign scheduled to hold from Nov. 22 to Dec. 1.

The groups made the pledge at a stakeholders’ awareness meeting on Wednesday in Sokoto ahead of the exercise.

The Chairman of Community Mobilisation Committee, Alhaji Cigari Alhassan, underscored the importance of the role of traditional, religious and community groups in the successful implementation of policies.

Alhassan urged members to live up to the expectation of effective mobilisation of people to accept the yellow fever vaccination, stressing that collaboration and partnership with officials is also important for the success of the exercise.

Delivering a lecture on Community Partnership on Campaign Implementation, Dr Larai Wamakko from the World Health Organisation (WHO), highlighted expected challenges, misunderstandings, misconception and other issues usually encountered during such campaigns.

Wamakko also proffered solutions and elaborated on the good qualities of a key player, calling for cooperation among all stakeholders to ensure huge success.

The meeting was also attended by journalists, transport workers, health and medical workers union as well as educationists, among others. (NAN)
