Five men were on Monday docked in an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun for allegedly smoking and selling marijuana in public.The police charged Saheed Raimi,47; Atari Samson,20; Abayomi Adeduro,31; Samson Abiodun,22 and Odedele Yemi,25 with two counts of breach of peace and smoking cannabis in the public.
The Prosecution Counsel, Insp E.O.Adaraloye, told the court that the defendants and others at large, committed the offence on Jan.14 at about 7 p.m. i Oju-Ore,Ketere and Ijoko area of Ota.Adaraloye said the defendants conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of peace.
The prosecutor also said the defendants harassed members of the public and blocked them from going to their various places of work.He said that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 234 and 249(d) of the Criminal Code,Laws of Ogun,2006.
They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.Magistrate A.O.Adeyemi admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N100,000 each with one surety each in like sum.Adeyemi ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to Ogun Government.She adjourned the case until Feb.7.
