2019: Buhari meets with Imams, assures on credible polls

As electioneering kicks off next week, President Muhammadu Buhari has reassured of his commitment to a free, fair and credible elections in the country.

Speaking when he received a delegation of Imams and senior Islamic scholars in Abuja on Friday. the President also disclosed that measures put in place had seen the gradual improvement of elections, as in Edo, Anambra, Ekiti and Osun States.

“What I want to assure Nigerians is that I will continue to pressure the Police and other agencies to do their best to ensure a conducive atmosphere for free and fair elections,’’ Buhari said.

While promising to continue to direct security agencies to find lasting solutions to issues of insecurity, he however stressed the need for community and religious leaders to play a part in identifying criminals in their midst.

“I am not satisfied with the reporting of agriculture. Millions of our citizens have returned to the farms with many leaving white collar jobs for opportunities in agriculture,’’ he noted.

Leading the delegation, the Secretary General of the Jama’atul Nasril Islam, Dr Khalid Aliyu earlier said that Buhari had performed in key areas of his campaign promises made in 2015, especially in the areas of security, corruption and the economy.

“So far, so good, government has gone a long way in meeting its promises,’’ he said.
