Workers on Tuesday reported at their duty posts in Okitipupa, Ondo State, following the suspension of the nationwide strike by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Sept. 30.
A visit to public offices, schools and banks by a correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) revealed that business activities had picked up as workers were going about their legitimate activities.
The parastatals visited by NAN were: Okitipupa Local Government Secretariat, Nigerian Postal Service, the State Specialist Hospital, Ondo State University of Science and Technology, Customary, Magistrates and High Courts in Okitipupa and its environs.
NAN reports that pupils and students of government-owned primary and secondary schools were carrying out academic activities with the supervision of their teachers and administrators.
Dr Dipo Komolafe, the Chairman of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Ondo State University of Science and Technology, told NAN that the union had complied with the NLC directive.
“Since the strike have been called-off, academic activities have resumed and I think other unions in the institution have complied with the directive,’’ Akomolafe said.
Also speaking, Mr Olayinka Olademi, the Secretary, Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Okitipupa Chapter, told NAN that the national body had ordered all its members to resume duty since the strike had been called off.
“We have been ordered to resume work and as you can see now that activities have resumed,’’ Olademi said.
NAN reports that the Organised Labour declared an indefinite strike on Sept. 27 to press for the completion of the tripartite committee’s assignment on new national minimum wage.
