Legal Adviser, Abuja chapter of Umulumgbe Progressive Union (UPU), Barr Remy Agu has said his union has over the time succeeded in encouraging traders among them to go back to school in order to compete favorably in business.
Speaking to this medium shortly after the 2017 end of party party at Event Centre, Byazhin, Abuja, Agu said most of UPU members were dealers in Zuba Motor Spare Parts Market in Abuja. He added that due to the encouragement given to them, most of those who didn’t have first school leaving certificates had since become university graduates in different courses through distance learning. Barr Agu informed that the union has been supporting its members in different trades, which according to him was its major aims.
Similarly speaking, High Chief Joseph Ozor said they have been using the organisation to assist traders, among others due to the role commerce has been playing in the economy. Calling on all indigenes of the community resident in Abuja to join the association, the Ezechinawaluji the 1st of Umulumgbe said that he has sponsored many traders ,some of whom, according to him, have since been doing well. Another title holder, Ozor Francis Ubaku spoke at length on the benefits attached to the membership of the organisation.
Earlier in an opening remark, the chairman of the organisation, Engr Ugo Ugwu confirmed that they have been using the union to assist traders and other members in different trades, even as he added that the essence of the celebration was to gather his people to thank God as well as enjoy with one another. The mother of the day, Chief (Mrs) Florence Ozor urged the members to continue to look for the face of God as well as promote unity among themselves, which if continued, according to her would go a long way.
Prominent among the invitees were a former Secretary, Bwari Area Council, Hon (Mrs) Fidelia Onyeachonam who commended them for encouraging traders and other members through one way or the other; Ochigbo aspirant in Byazhin, High Chief Jude Ubadi who commended them for ability to organise the party irrespective of the on going hard time in the country; Eze Igbo of Kubwa, HRH Jonathan Ozor Nweke who urged them to keep encouraging their members in different trades.
Umulumgbe is a community in Udi local government area, Enugu state.
