The National Association of Telecommunications Subscribers (NATCOMS) has called on telecoms operators to improve on the quality of their services in 2018.

The President of NATCOMS, Chief Deolu Ogunbanjo, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Lagos that there was no significant improvement on the quality of service in 2017.

Ogunbanjo said that telecommunications subscribers deserve better services.

He said the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) should ensure that there was no increase in the voice and data tariff in 2018.

According to him, the regulatory body should ensure that there is fair competition in the industry, as this will improve quality of services offered by the operators.

The NATCOMS president said that subscribers were already having the feeling that data bundles now exhausted faster than normal.

He said that consumers now expect good quality of service on data usage, not tariff increase.

“Networks should improve on the radio equipment on their masts, so as to facilitate the use of the internet.

“Everything now is all about data. Even calls are made on the internet.

“So, data is the next thing for network operators and they should not punish the subscribers because of it.

Rather, they should encourage more subscribers to key into data usage.”

Ogunbanjo said during the festive season in 2017, text messages sent by subscribers were delivered seamlessly.

“A lot of text messages were sent and not many returned unsent like in 2016.

“But I now looked at it and analysed that many people had also used data through WhatsApp, Instagram, among others, so there was less traffic on text messaging,” he said. (NAN)
