Storekeeper bags 6 months jail term for stealing employer’s turbocharger

A Zuba Upper Area Court, Abuja, on Monday sentenced a 27-year-old Storekeeper, Francis Onyekachukwu, to six months imprisonment for stealing  his employer’s bus turbocharger.

Onyekachukwu of Mararaba, Nassarawa State, was arraigned on a count charge of theft by servant, an offence he admitted committing.

The judge, Gambo Garba, however gave the convict an option to pay a fine of N20, 000 .

Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Mr Chinedu Ogada, told the court that an Abuja-based Transport Company, Urban Mass Transit, reported the matter at the Dawaki Police Station on March 4.
Ogada said that Onyekachukwu was employed by the company as a storekeeper.

He said that sometime in February, while the convict was on duty in the store at the Katampe Urban Office, he stole  a bus turbocharger.

The prosecutor said that on Feb. 27 Onyekachukwu admitted committing the crime and paid N17, 000 as part payment for the turbocharger.

He said that the offence contravened  the provisions of Section 289 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
